Introduction:
Vapreotide (Sanvar) is a synthetic somatostatin analog. It is used in the treatment of esophageal variceal bleeding in patients with cirrhotic liver disease and AIDS-related diarrhea.
Application
Compared with somatostatin, vapreotide has higher metabolic stability and a longer biological half-life (~90 min). Lactopeptide is the first somatostatin analogue to exhibit acute variceal hemorrhage and produces specific organ vasoconstriction, which is effective for hemostasis in acute gastrointestinal bleeding. Currently, a number of clinical trials including prostate cancer and acromegaly are being carried out.
Note:
The adverse reactions of valproate and other somatostatin are found in patients with long-term use, mainly diabetes, gallstones, diarrhea, malabsorption, and the like. There are also injection site pain, nausea, headache, dizziness, bloating and so on. The above symptoms are not high and the patients are mostly tolerant. They usually relieve themselves within 1~2 weeks after administration without affecting normal treatment. Rapid disappearance after stopping the drug will not cause damaging lesions.
